I finally got curious about the appeal of Tumblr. I'd read a few Tumblr blogs but I honestly didn't see the appeal because while you could reblog and add notes while you did it didn't look like you could talk to anyone. I'm used to things like LJ, mailing lists, newsgroups, and forums, you see. (Though I think I saw a post from Tumblr staff that a threaded comment feature might be rolled out? Don't quote me on that.) I was also curious about how it worked, so I went ahead and made one: hoursgoneby.tumblr.com. Come by and say hello. (So far I've mostly been reblogging neat things from archaelogy blogs. There are some jaw-droppingly beautiful things from antiquity.)
I've found Tumblr easy to use, so I see the appeal there, and it's definitely more useful as a newsfeed than LJ or Dreamwidth would be. I like the 'like' feature because sometimes you don't have something to say about a post, you just like it. I'm definitely a fan of being able to queue or schedule your posts and reblogs instead of just postdating them. But still, you can't have a conversation the way you've been able to in every other fan-favorited media I've used. I'm not sure I get the point of having a thing for fandom if you can't discuss it with your fellow fans. I suppose were I to post something fannish I could always direct people here for conversation though that seems a bit awkward.
If the threaded comment feature does come to pass, I wonder if k-memes, challenges, etc. will move over there as well? And how well it will work.
