Yeah, his books have a rhythm like that, don't they (although the flashback strand in Thieves makes it a little different).
Yes, it didn't have the same gut-wrenching death scene(s) as the first two, but that just makes me suspicious for the next book. (This Sept., apparently.) I was REALLY worried Sabetha was going to die, and after waiting for her to show for two books!
BTW, what were you expecting Patience's news about Locke to be? I was sort of expecting 'lost son of someone important' or something, and I think I would've been disappointed in that because Lynch has been good so far about not dropping into boilerplate fantasy, not what we got.
