That is encouraging to hear about Sparrow Hill Road! Maybe it'll be the McGuire book that finally fully works for me... (Discount Armageddon didn't, and I agree with you that it felt like the heroine was trying too hard.)

I've read the first two Charm of Magpies books, but didn't realize there were also short stories -- thanks for that info, downloaded :)

How this works with ebooks I'm not sure - there must be a limit on how often a copy can be checked out simultaneously

I think, as with paper books, they're only allowed to loan one copy to one person at a time. I also know that (at least with Kindle books) they can only loan out a copy some (small) number of times before it's considered "worn out" and they have to repurchase it. Basically Amazon/publishers being very concerned not to lose out on the higher volume of sales to libraries.
